In this section you will continue your study of Ancient Greece. You will learn that:

  • The Greek city-states—while independent— often banded together to defend themselves against a common, foreign enemy.

  • Sparta and Athens later fought each other in the Peloponnesian War.

  • Sparta eventually conquered Athens in this conflict.

  • Health and strength were very important to the ancient Greeks.

  • The Olympic Games were invented by the ancient Greeks.

  • Greece was once led by a brilliant conqueror named Alexander the Great.
