Roman soldierLesson 4: The Roman Army

The Roman army was the most formidable fighting force in the ancient world. The army's success lay in the organization and discipline of its soldiers, individually and as a group. Each soldier was responsible for helping to build and maintain fortified camps, complete with moat, earthen ramparts, and wooden walls. Every soldier had a designated job and every camp was laid out in the same plan.

On the battlefield, Roman soldiers fought with superior weapons, training, and tactics. With such a disciplined and organized army, it is not surprising that Rome was a world power for many centuries.
