Lesson 4: Women in Athens

Send In Activity 4:
Option B: Declaration of Rights and Freedoms

Pretend you are a politician in Ancient Athens. Write a speech outlining the ways you propose to improve the status of women in Athenian society.

Present your speech in a word document. Or, if you would like to and know how to do it, record your speech in a sound file. (10 marks)

Marking Guide

  • Your speech accurately describes the lack of rights and freedoms of Ancient Greek women. Your examples are drawn from the information you learned in this lesson.
  • Your speech contains solutions to each of these inequalities (i.e., ways the status of women can be improved).
  • Your speech has a serious tone. You are concerned about the inequality between men and women in Athens and should sound committed to doing something about it.
