How to Make a Bibliography

When you write a research report, it is important to include a bibliography in which you acknowledge where you found your information. Remember, for this report you should have used at least three sources. Please follow the proper format given below to credit each source.




Web sites:
http://web site/file name. Date you downloaded the information.

e.g.,
http://www.oldtimes.com/~meyers/memories.html. January 7, 2000.

 

Books by a single author:
Author's last name, then first name. Title of book. Place of publication: publisher, date of publication.

e.g.,
Jones, Ray. Talking About Statistics. New York: Harper Collins, 1983.

 

Books by two or more authors:
Each author's last name [listed alphabetically], then first initial. Title of book. Place of publication: publisher, date of publication.

e.g.,
Doyle, S. and Toutant, A. Ancient Worlds. Don Mills, Ontario: Oxford University Press, 2000.

 

Books under the direction of an editor:
Editor's last name, then first name, ed. Title of book. Place of publication: publisher, date of publication.

e.g.,
Brown, Mary, ed. The History of Canada. Toronto: Key Porter Books, 2000.

 

Article or entry in a reference book, such as an encyclopedia:
"Title of article." Title of Encyclopedia. Volume number, page number(s), year of publication.

e.g.,
"Relativity." Encyclopedia Britannica. Vol. 26, pages 50-510, 1993.

 

Article in a magazine or a newspaper:
Author(s) last name, then first name. "Title of article." Name of newspaper or magazine, date of publication, page number in newspaper or magazine.

e.g.,
Smith, Lucy. "In search of the perfect holiday." Traveller's Digest, June 13, 1993, 42.
