Many of the kings, or pharaohs, of Ancient Egypt were buried in this valley after they died. The most famous king buried here was Tutankhamun.
The Valley of the Kings was chosen not only because of its remoteness and inaccessibility, but also because of the presence of a mountain peak that was considered a natural pyramid. You can see this mountain in the top left corner of this photograph.
