Guided Practice: Hypothesizing in Science–Part A

Rewrite the following statements as hypotheses using the formalized style shown in Step 2.

1.	Excess fat intake causes mass gain Answer If eating excess fat causes mass gain, then people who eat too much fat will gain a different amount of mass than people who don’t eat as much fat.
2.	Salt in soil limits plant growth. Answer If salt in soil limits plant growth, then plants will grow at a different rate in salty soil than in non-salty soil.
3.	Temperature may cause leaves to change colour. Answer If leaf-colour change is related to temperature, then exposing plants to different temperatures will result in leaf colour changes.
