Cowper’s gland is a small gland that secretes lubricants to assist the sperm in their journey. Recent studies suggest these may produce antibodies against sperm from other individuals. Other species also have methods for preventing fertilization from competing males. Here’s a article about this ability in birds.

4.3.B: Sperm Anatomy and the Pathway of Seminal Fluid

      Testis and sperm
      http://highered.mheducation.com/sites/dl/free/0072507470/234442/mc_ch28_fig03.jpg
      (a) The lobules of a testis contain seminiferous tubules. (b) Light micrograph of a cross section of the seminiferous tubules where spermatogenesis occurs. Note the location of interstitial cells in clumps among the seminiferous tubules. (c) Diagrammatic representation of spermatogenesis, which occurs in wall of tubules. (d) A sperm has a head, a middle piece, and a tail. The nucleus is in the head, which is capped by the enzyme-containing acrosome.
