Ancient civilizations, architecture, culture and people all come to life with Open School BC’s Social Studies 7 online program. Venture through the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and then take a tour along the Nile River in Egypt with Queen Nefertiti. Discover Ancient Greece, Alexander the Great, the origins of democracy and the Olympic Games.
In this updated, online program students learn how and why several ancient civilizations originated, grew, and then eventually collapsed.
Social Studies 7 is divided into five modules. The first module starts off with the world’s first civilization, Mesopotamia, and the lasting contributions it made on western civilization. Module two explores the architecture, food, mummies, and hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt. In Module three, students learn about the birth of democracy and the Olympics in ancient Greece. Module four introduces Rome, one of the largest empires the world has ever seen. The final module describes how laws, governments and cultures of ancient civilizations contribute to the modern Canadian political and legal systems. For detailed topic headings see the shaded boxes below.
Social Studies 7 is designed for self-paced independent learners as well as students in regular classrooms. This course addresses learning outcomes from the 2006 Ministry of Education Social Studies 7 IRP.
This version of Social Studies 7 is available online only. Students will be exposed to exciting and entertaining interactive multimedia components that illustrate or explain key concepts, lessons and tutorials.
