The ideal of freedom and open discussion failed when Socrates, one of Athens' most famous philosophers, was put on trial.

c. What did Socrates do, rather than accept this punishment? (2 marks)

2. The trial of Socrates showed that Athens was democratic in some ways and undemocratic in others. Explain. (4 marks)
