Open School BC is a part of the Business, Technology and Online Services Division within the Ministry of Education. Our team of dedicated professionals provide expertise in project management, instructional design, instructional writing/editing, teaching, multimedia design, publishing and information technology. Our work environment exemplifies commitment, collaboration and respect, resulting in successful projects and satisfied clients.

 

Our History
What began in 1919 as the BC Department of Education’s Provincial Correspondence School has evolved into today’s Open School BC. As part of the Department, and later Ministry of Education, we provided resources and services to K–12 distance education learners in the province. We continued in this role after our transfer to the Open Learning Agency in 1997. In 2003, we became part of Shared Services BC within the Ministry of Citizens’ Services. Our business model changed from government funded to cost-recovery, providing us with the opportunity to create resources for public sector clients as well as the entire BC K-12 school system. In 2010 we rejoined the Ministry of Education, where we continue to offer the best in education resource development and online learning services. With over ninety years of distributed learning experience, Open School BC continues to grow, keeping pace with evolving educational technologies and practices in support of Learning 2.0
